The State has an extensive array of financial aid programs in the form of grants, scholarships and other awards for students who want to further their education beyond high school.
Financial aid is money that helps you pay for higher education. Merit-based financial aid is aid given to students who have special talents, skills, or who have earned good grades. Need-based financial aid is given to students who demonstrate that they have financial need. Financial aid can come in the form of grants, work, student loans, parent loans, scholarships and other awards.

The Office of Student Financial Assistance recognizes that in many cases students freely exchange information about educational progress with parents and other third parties. In order to facilitate that process, a special release form has been developed that allows OSFA personnel to share certain information about student progress with parents and other third parties. This form must be signed by the student and can then be returned to the Office of Student Financial Assistance.
PROBLEMS WITH YOUR STUDENT LOAN SERVICER?
If you have a complaint about your student loan servicer and need information on what steps you can take to resolve your concerns you can contact the Maryland Student Loan Ombudsman at https://www.dllr.state.md.us/finance/consumers/frslombud.shtml . Student loan servicer problems that the Ombudsman can assist with include: failure by the servicer to communicate with a borrower, errors in crediting principal and interest payments, misapplied payments, inaccurate interest rate calculations, billing errors, loan consolidations or modifications errors, and/or inappropriate collection activity or tactics.
